PURPOSE:
According
to Mil-Std-810, the three main reasons for conducting rain tests are:
- To test the effectiveness of protective covers or
cases in preventing the penetration of rain.
- The capability of the test item to satisfy its
performance requirements during and after exposure to rain.
- Physical deterioration of the test item.
ENVIRONMENTAL
EFFECTS:
Rain
(when falling, upon impact, and as deposited water has a variety of
effects on materiel.
In the atmosphere, it:

Interferes
with or degrades radio communication.

Limits
radar effectiveness.

Limits
aircraft operations by restricting visibility.
