STEADY STATE HUMIDITY

ABOUT

PURPOSE:

To determine the impact on connector performance as influenced or deteriorated by the effects of high humidity and heat conditions. This test imposes a vapor on the connector materials that constitutes the force behind moisture migration and detects or evaluates potential connector degradation factors such as:

  1. Sensitivity of plastic material to swelling and any loss of mechanical or electrical integrity of same.

  2. Generate, via the wet oxidation process, loss of electrical stability due to particulates which may be deposited on contacting surfaces, wear which may expose base metal or underplates of contacting surfaces, and oxidation of non-noble finish systems.

  3. Penetration of moisture through the sealing features of a connector system.
